Counselling

What is counselling?
Counselling is a safe place where you can work with a trained professional to help you learn and grow as an individual.  Whether you want to set and pursue a personal goal or work through an issue, problem or situation, a counsellor will listen to you, respect you and work with you to develop your own resources to prosper in life.

A counsellor will not give you advice or tell you what to do.  Instead, you will be helped through a process to problem-solve, develop self-leadership skills and move towards a happier existence.

Who can benefit from Counselling?
Anybody who wishes to improve their quality of life will benefit from counselling.   Whether you are setting goals or responding to a situation that life has thrown at you, counselling can assist you to move forward. 
People come to my counselling practice for a range of things including:

  • Making transitions

What can you expect as an outcome?
The benefits and outcomes of undertaking a counselling experience are many and varied. They depend on your personal goals and needs.  Overall, you can expect to enjoy a better quality of life.  You will develop skills to harness your strengths, and interact more effectively with your environment and the people around you.  You may enjoy more clarity and awareness of who you are as a person, as well as your needs and aspirations.

Most importantly, you will be better able to exercise your free will – your innate ability to control your life and choose your responses and your own direction in life.

The counselling process:
In our first meeting, together we will look at your needs and expectations for the counselling process.  From there, you will set goals for our work together and we will plan how to achieve these.

Sessions are conducted at times scheduled to suit you.  Sessions are usually one hour; however, some people prefer a longer session.

During the course of your personal growth experience, we will review your progress to ensure that counselling is meeting your needs.

How do I work?
I work with people using a flexible style that draws from a number of therapeutic methods.  This approach is designed to meet your particular needs and aspirations.  Our work together is supported with a respectful and collaborative working relationship.  We set goals, work towards outcomes and regularly review progress.

The duration of our work is always flexible in response to your needs.  You may choose to pause or discontinue your personal growth journey at any time.
Many who choose to take a personal growth journey continue with ad hoc sessions over time, as the need arises.

Location for sessions.
Sessions are conducted at my office in Windsor, 3 kms north of the Brisbane CBD.
You can reach the office by car, train or bus and directions are available when you make your first appointment.
